Our luck with the weather gods finally wore thin this week as the heavens opened up and resulted in the washout of a couple of classes. The organisers very kindly offered free passes though so Goers can come back at sample the activity at their leisure. In saying that, there were plenty of fantastic sessions that went full-steam ahead with lots of laughs, challenges and that sense of achievement you get from trying and conquering something new. Nice work everyone!

Here is a wrap-up of each day; but we’d just like to say a huge thank you to these businesses and clubs involved:

QueenB Burlesque | Launch Zone | Magnetic Island Outrigger Canoe Club | Courage Training Centre | Townsville Triathlon Club | Townsville Crocodiles | Breathe Australia | Snap Fitness | Tennis Townsville

Jan 16 – Burlesque Bump & Grind

Ladies of all ages bumped and grinded like they meant it as laughter rang throughout the room at Genesis Fitness. QueenB Burlesque showed Goers how to bring out their sexy inner goddess through the ‘The Art of Tease’; teaching the key fundamental moves of burlesque like shimmy, shake, bump and – of course – grind. Yes, there were plenty of giggles. One participant said after: “I absolutely loved this class. I felt a little strange and shy to start with but the girls that run this class are fantastic. You don’t have to be fit or any sort of shape to do it: So much fun.” Thanks to Vivienne Starr and April de Winter for showing everyone a great time. If you missed out, mention TheGo and receive $5 off a casual burlesque class. https://www.facebook.com/QueenBBurlesqueTroupe

Jan 17 – Jump FiTT

Unfortunately this class was cancelled due to instructor illness, but everyone on the list had the chance to use the facility for free, plus will enjoy a free Jump FiTT class at a time of their choice. What’s Jump FiTT? A low-impact activity on trampolines that’s high-energy and lots of fun. https://www.launchzone.com.au/

Jan 18 – Outrigging Water Sports Challenge

It was a perfect day to try outrigging as the glass-like ocean welcomed the whole Magnetic Island Outrigger Canoe Club’s fleet. Each boat was packed with keen Goers and even the OC12 came out for a rare appearance as people who had never stepped foot in an outrigger canoe climbed aboard the boats of varying sizes and gave the sport a go – it was a fantastic sight to see from the beach (behind Tobruk Pool). One participant said: “It’s a good activity that my partner and I can do together and it’s a great way to start a Sunday”. Thanks to the MIOCC for all their efforts in hosting this activity and providing instruction (and just the right amount of inter-boat competitiveness). If you missed out, you can try outrigging for free every Sunday with MIOCC or the other local outrigging clubs. Jan 19 – Combat Cardio – Morning

Goers battled the heat in a challenging and rewarding session of Combat Cardio using explosive moves. Featuring punching bag rounds, medicine ball throws, kettlebell swings and clean and presses, it was all about building strength, endurance and cardio fitness at the Courage Training Centre on Bayswater Road. Thanks to Ian Bone for running the free session and nice work to those who attended and gave it their all. If you missed out and you’re interested in membership at the training facility, mention TheGo when you sign-up and get 30 days free. http://couragetrainingcentre.com/

Jan 19 – Give Triathlons a Go – Afternoon

Adults and kids got to see what triathlon was all about down at The Strand in the afternoon. There were running drills, a practice-run of all three legs (swim, ride, run) in one mini tri, technique tips and even advice on how to organise equipment for quick transitions. Thanks to Donna and the Townsville Tri Club for hosting this free activity at The Rockpool (well-timed before the big storm!). http://www.townsvilletriclub.com.au/.

Jan 20 – Basketball Skills Session with the Best – Afternoon

Budding basketballers had an absolute ball with about 50 kids aged from pre-schooler to young teen taking to the courts at RSL Stadium to learn tips from the best in the business. Townsville Crocodiles players – including Todd Blanchfield and Greg Vanderjagt – put the youngsters through a number of engaging drills that were designed to build skills, get them active and keep them entertained throughout the one-hour session. One mum said: “We are going to our first game Friday night, the kids loved meeting the Crocs and we can’t wait to see them in action!” All participants got a Crocs merchandise pack to take home. Thanks to the Townsville S&P; Crocodiles for hosting this awesome activity. http://www.crocodiles.com.au/

Jan 20 – Learn to Meditate Taster Workshop – Evening

Participants got a good introduction to the merits of meditation in this one-hour taster workshop with Andy Roberts from Breathe Australia. The group learnt some techniques first, before settling onto their mats for some practical application. One participant said: “I liked that the instructor was interactive with the class and the tips he gave in order to be able to practise on our own”. Thanks to Andy for hosting this free class at Lighten Up. http://www.breathe-australia.com/

Jan 21 – Bootcamp

Due to heavy storm action, we had to cancel bootcamp at Snap Fitness, which was set to be an awesome commando-style outdoor session featuring exercises like tug-of-war, tyre flipping, ropes, and hurdles. All registered participants will be able to try this session free of charge at a later date thanks to Snap Fitness Thuringowa. http://www.snapfitness.com.au/

Jan 22 – Cardio Tennis

The heavy rain also washed out the fully-booked session of Cardio Tennis at Tennis Townsville. All registered participants will get a free pass to try this music-fuelled calorie-zapping session at a later date thanks to the club. http://www.tennistownsville.org/joomla/adult-tennis/cardio-tennis
