The level of excitement to try something new continued into the second week of the 31 Days of Activity, with hundreds of Goers signing up to experience a fresh active pursuit. They tried everything from adult circus classes to archery tag and had a ball doing so. Find out more about each activity below.

Also, a huge thanks to our activity hosts for putting on such fantastic sessions.

Xtend Barre – Ballet Pilates Fusion | The Fitness Games Boot Camp Taster | Hot4Hockey | Hydrolates — Pilates in the Pool | Adults’ Circus Workshop | Detox Hot Yoga | XFire Games — Archery Tag

Scroll to the bottom of this story to find out how you can still #GetInvolved and kick your 2016 off by discovering something new, awesome and motivating.

Day 8: Xtend Barre — Ballet Pilates Fusion

Barre-8

Goers strengthened, lengthened, and stretched their bodies from top to bottom in Pilates Studio Townsville’s Xtend Barre — Ballet Pilates Fusion.

Developed from a ballet/Pilates background, Xtend combines the amazing toning and fitness results of ballet with the principles of strength and safety in Pilates. Xtend Barre promotes stronger abs and back muscles, improved endurance and overall energy with increased flexibility, greater body awareness and improved posture, toned arms, sculpted thighs, and lifted derrière — nice!

Get involved in 2016: Check out Pilates Studio Townsville’s varied timetable here and make it your goal to head along and try a class this month: http://www.pilatestownsville.com.au/

Day 9: The Fitness Games Boot Camp Taster

Fitness-Games-7

It was all fun and games as more than 30 Goers waddled like ducks, flipped cones and went straight to jail in The Fitness Games’ highly entertaining boot camp.

Using traditional games and giving them an active twist, boot camp has never been so fun with the sound of laughter ringing out across Jezzine Barracks as attendees played freeze tag to warm-up, then tackled the animal relay, launched into active Monopoly and got low to the ground with cone flip.

Get involved in 2016: Join the 12-week challenge, which starts January 30 — a whole three months of active fun! All Goers get a 25% discount. Find out more here: https://www.facebook.com/thefitnessgamestownsville/

Day 10: Hot4Hockey

Hockey

Despite being ready to roll, the weather had other plans when it got to Sunday and Hot4Hockey. The much-needed rain came and turned Strand Park into a giant puddle, so this session had to be cancelled.

Get involved in 2016: Those who missed out and would love for the family to have a go at the Olympic Sport can join in Townsville Hockey Association’s family fun day on February 6, 9am-1pm at Murray Lyons Crescent Annandale. More details to come soon: https://www.facebook.com/TownsvilleHockeyAssoc/?fref=ts

Day 11: Hydrolates — Pilates in the Pool

AquaPilates-23

Goers strengthened their cores and challenged themselves while being supported by water in SportsMedNQ’s Hydrolates — Pilates in the Pool. This popular session suited people of all abilities thanks to the range of exercises to keep everyone entertained and working hard, but within their limits.

Hydrolates is particularly great for those with injuries and persistent pain, but can also be used as a form of resistance if you are looking for an extra challenge or to add another dimension to your current fitness line-up. Each participant does the class at their own pace and exercises can be modified to suit individual needs.

Get involved in 2016: Hydrolates is run every Monday at 11am at Long Tan Swimming Pool. Find out more here: http://sportsmednq.net.au/.

Day 12: Adults’ Circus Workshop

Adult-Circus-Class-20150112-9

Goers ran away to join the circus on Tuesday afternoon when La Luna Youth Arts hosted their dynamic session. After a game of stuck in the mud to warm-up, participants had fun experimenting with different tumbling exercises; playing with poi balls; trick sticks; hula-hoops and juggling balls, and then finished off with some creative acrobatic tricks.

Get involved in 2016: La Luna Arts have kids and adults classes every week at the Riverway Arts building. Find out more here: http://www.lalunanq.com/

Day 13: Detox Hot Yoga

LightenUp-DetoxHotYoga-2016-11

About 30 Goers streamed into Lighten Up’s Hot Yoga class looking to sweat out some toxins and cleanse tired bodies.

Set at 30C, the studio’s infrared rays penetrate deeply into your body and help you to excrete toxic build up from alcohol, drugs, food additives, pesticides and other pollutants. Increasing the core temperature helps to kick latent infections in the body, sinuses, and the skin.

This class is also designed to help you to squeeze any toxic thoughts right out of your head, as these can do the most damage of all.

Get involved in 2016: New students can enjoy an introductory offer of three classes for $20. Also, Lighten Up’s 30-Day Detox Challenge starts February 1. Find out more here: http://www.lightenupnq.com.au/

Day 14: XFire Games — Archery Tag

XFireGames-95

Goers of all ages got the adrenalin pumping at XFire Games’ Archery Tag session. After a quick lesson in how to use the equipment (the arrows are padded so you don’t get hurt), friends and family members teamed up (or sometimes went against each other) to shoot the other team and the targets.

Rounds were played in seven-minute bursts, but it was still more than enough time for everyone to work up a sweat.

Get involved in 2016: XFire Games is available for event hire and also has a special ‘hoverball’ shooting range. A new Archery Tag league with weekly sessions will be starting soon. Contact XFire Games for more information: https://www.facebook.com/XFire-Games-541100666043694/
