Activity in a nutshell
Either do one of them or both, but there are two components to these cycling skills sessions. The morning will focus on road cycling skills, including cornering, braking, manoeuvring, bunch riding, and drafting. In the afternoon/evening the focus will shift to track cycling, covering basic track cycling skills, riding fixed wheel bikes, bank riding and more.
What’s great about it?
Improve your bike handling skills in a supportive environment. For the track session, if you don’t have a track bike, the club will provide one for you to use free of charge. There are huge benefits from cycling to your overall fitness, health and wellbeing, and developing new friendships. Doing one cycling discipline also benefits the other.
Who’s it best for?
Anyone keen to try the booming sport of cycling! This session is inclusive for men and women between the ages of eight and 70 years.
Anything else to know?
Road component – All participants will need a road bike in good order with working brakes (roadworthy), helmet to Australian Standards (bearing AS/NZ2063 sticker), drink bottle, T-shirt, shorts or cycling kit (shoulders must be covered — no singlets), gloves (if desired), socks, closed-in footwear or cycling shoes, SLIP, SLOP, SLAP and sunglasses.
Track component – All of the above, however — if participants do not have a track bike — the club will provide a bike on the day.
Please bring a puncture repair kit (if you have one) for any incidences and spare shoes if you are wearing cycling shoes.
