The 64km K2PD point-to-point race is incorporated in the Mowbray National Park within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.
Teams of 2-4 runners can also complete the full course. It starts just off Kennedy Highway in Kuranda and follows Black Mountain Road through native rainforest, open eucalyptus forest, pine plantations and over picturesque creeks.
There is a shorter 16km race held on the same day, starting at the top of the Bump on Black Mountain Road. The finish is on Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas. The tropical rainforest is home to the endangered southern cassowary, a flightless bird that can grow to two metres in height — you might see one!
Speaking of birds… Early Bird entries end at 9pm on May 25, 2016. Late Fees apply from July 31, 2016. Registrations close 9pm, August 7, 2016.
