Townsville athletes will head up the coast for the iconic IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 events that are known as the ultimate tests of endurance.
Starting with a 3.8km swim at Palm Cove, competitors race up the Captain Cook Highway hugging the coastline from Cairns to Port Douglas in arguably the most spectacular bike course in the world (180km). From reef to World Heritage listed rainforest, and a run (42km) along the stunning Cairns boardwalk, the race finishes in the heart of the city. This race has become a ‘must-do’ on the IRONMAN circuit.
IRONMAN 70.3 Cairns also offers athletes an amazing race experience, set on the same great course as Cairns Airport IRONMAN Cairns. IRONMAN 70.3 Cairns features a course memorable for the swim in the warm waters of Tropical North Queensland (1.9km), the bike leg that travels up one of the most scenic coastal roads in Australia towards Port Douglas (90km) and run (21km) that includes the Cairns boardwalk before finishing in the heart of the city of Cairns.
