The sandy beaches and beautiful blue waters of Magnetic Island made for the perfect backdrop for Kite Townsville’s International Kiteboarding Championship this past week, with In The Loop Kiteboarding owner Marvin Baumeister describing Townsville as “one of the best locations” for watersports in the world.

There was a total of 23 competitors in the Formula Course Race Regatta and 26 in the Magnetic Island to Townsville Long Distance Kite Marathon – both events held as part of Sealink Magnetic Island Race Week.

“It’s easy to learn, so much fun to do, and you can travel with it, do it on water, snow, land, surf or lakes,” Marvin says. “Any age can do it, from five years to 70 years.”

Kiteboarding enthusiasts will be in for another treat towards the end of this month with the final KiteFoil Gold Cup Australia event taking place from September 25 to October 2 in Townsville.

This event will feature the fastest kite racers from all over the world as they finish their world tour and the champion is crowned.
